v0.0.1 · EARLY PUBLIC DRAFT

Models should be replaceable.
Relationships should not be disposable.

IPSEONA is an early open protocol effort for preserving continuity across AI models, agents, applications, and providers.

AI memory can preserve facts.

Continuity preserves the ability to continue.

01

Why IPSEONA exists

A long-running conversation with an AI creates more than a transcript. It creates shared concepts, rejected paths, assessments, commitments, unresolved questions, boundaries, and future possibilities.

Today, much of that continuity is trapped inside a conversation, a model, an application, or a service provider. A model may improve while the accumulated context that made the relationship useful becomes opaque, degraded, or lost.

IPSEONA begins with a simple premise: models may change, but the continuity formed through sustained interaction should be portable, inspectable, correctable, and independently implementable.

02

Three core concepts

I

Ipse

The persistent Self.

Ipse is the continuing subject to which experiences, commitments, projections, actions, corrections, and consequences remain attributable over time.

  • Model ≠ Ipse
  • Session ≠ Ipse
  • Provider ≠ Ipse
P

Persona

The relational boundary.

Persona is how an Ipse becomes distinguishable and consequential in a particular context. It scopes perception, disclosure, authority, interaction, and action.

  • What may I know?
  • What may I do?
  • Whom will I engage?
W

World

The modeled complement of Self.

World is not objective truth. It is the modeled non-Self with which a Persona interacts: claims, entities, evidence, events, relations, uncertainty, and time.

  • Claim ≠ Fact
  • Unknown ≠ False
  • World Model ≠ World
03

Context begins with relation.

Self without relation is selfhood. World without relation is existence. Context begins when a boundary makes the difference meaningful.

04

Continuity, not cloning

A new model should not need to impersonate the old one. It should be able to continue from what previous interaction produced.

Model Areasoning / interaction
IPSEONA continuity shared concepts relationship state rejected paths open threads commitments potential provenance boundaries
Model Bdifferent capability
Same continuity ≠ same behavior.
05

Security emerges from the boundary

Conversation does not create authority.
Authority is established by provenance and grants, not by content.
The World cannot become the Self merely by saying that it is.
Permission is a natural consequence of having a boundary.
IPSEONA v0.0.1

Publish early. Challenge the model before it becomes infrastructure.

The specification is intentionally incomplete. v0.0.1 is a public seed: philosophy, core concepts, continuity, and prior art. Schemas and conformance come later.
